Weaver – Prologue no. 7

Amanda and I went on a trip this past summer to explore Olympic National Park in Washington state. The park is vast and includes a wide spectrum of landscape including temperate rain forest, rocky coastline, and snow capped mountains. The diversity in the parks landscape is beyond anything I have ever seen before in my travels.

Green Cove – Pacific Northwest Trail

I chose to use film to photograph the park. As you can imagine, I ended up with a lot of images to scan, sort and edit. I am in the editing process right now, and plan to put up collections of photographs on my website organized by each type of landscape in the park. For example, the first collection will be composed of images taken in the Hoh River Rainforest.

Snowmelt Pond – High Divide Trail

It was hard to visual the diversity of the parks landscape until the trip started. We spent a day hiking in the Hoh River Rainforest, which was packed with ferns and moss-covered trees. The next day we hiked along the Pacific Northwest Trail on the coast and observed dense tide pools next to pillars of igneous rock bathed in mist. I was amazed that these places that differ so much visually yet exist so close together. I was inspired to call this new project Weaver because of how these landscapes exist together while composing the entire area of the park.
